Walsall currently sit top of League Two as the festive period approaches.
The Saddlers, who narrowly missed out on promotion to League One last season, have picked up 32 points so far this campaign and have won ten games.
But, with promotion arguably the aim of Mat Sadler’s side, the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium outfit may choose to recruit in the upcoming window.
However, with thirty players already in the squad, attention from the Saddlers could turn to recruiting players who can improve the quality of the current squad.
This article outlines five players that Walsall could sign in January 2026.
Potential Walsall Signings
Ben Woodburn
Ben Woodburn currently plays at Salford City and has featured 14 times this season whilst starting ten of these fixtures.
The attacking midfielder, who joined the Ammies in the summer of 2024, has scored twice this campaign and has also assisted two goals.
Meanwhile, Woodburn also has experience with Preston North End, Oxford United, and Hearts previously.
For Walsall, the addition of Woodburn would come at a cost but could provide more quality to Sadler’s side in the second half of the season.
James Tilley
Since joining Wycombe Wanderers in the summer following his departure from AFC Wimbledon after the Dons’ promotion, James Tilley has featured just six times and has started just once.
Furthermore, the 27-year-old can play in a number of positions including left-wing-back, right-midfield, and as a left-winger.
As well as this, with experience in getting promoted from League Two, Tilley’s arrival could help to boost the depth in the left-wing-back position and add promotion winning experience.
However, as the Englishman has only been at Wycombe for five months, Walsall would need to undergo negotiations to secure the services of Tilley.
Max Clark
Max Clark has been at Gillingham since the summer of 2023 and, in this time, the 29-year-old has made 91 apperances whilst scoring six times in these matches.
Meanwhile, Clark also aided Stevenage in their promotion from League Two in the 2022-23 season with 47 appearances and a single goal.
Furthermore, with Gillingham this season, the defensive minded player has made 35 tackles whilst also winning 69 duels showing his skill in one-on-one situations.
With this in mind, signing Clark would aid Walsall in their bid for promotion and could provide promotion-winning quality to Mat Sadler’s squad.
But, with the defender featuring regularly for Gillingham this season, this option arguably would be ambitious.
Kyle McAdam
Kyle McAdam currently plays for Mansfield Town, on loan from Nottingham Forest.
But, during this spell, McAdam, who plays in a variety of positions including left-midfield and left-wing-back, has featured just six times and has only started on two occasions.
Therefore, a move to Walsall could help to increase the depth and quality of several positions including the left-wing-back position whilst providing McAdam with more professional experience.
However, if this move was to occur, McAdam would have to leave Mansfield and then move to Walsall.
Lino Sousa
Currently playing for Aston Villa’s Under-21s side, Lino Sousa has featured for sides such as Bristol Rovers and Plymouth Argyle previously.
Furthermore, playing primarily in the left-back position, Sousa’s arrival at Walsall could give him another opportunity to develop professionally.
Meanwhile, the signing would provide more depth for Walsall in the left-back position, which could be useful should a left-back at the club become injured.
