Watford are along one of 2 clubs monitoring the young Italian’s progress for a potential deal in the summer window

As per the 72, Watford are keeping an eye on Italian 21-year-old midfielder Matteo Francesconi.
The Italian currently plays for Cesena in the Serie B with one goal and no assists so far this season, making 100 appearances for the club, scoring three goals.
Matteo has been at Cesena since 2021 at the age of seventeen, where he made his debut after building his way up from the academy ranks to earn a spot in the starting eleven.
Francesconi is a central midfielder; however, similar to many profiles within our squad, he is a highly versatile player and can play defensively as well as an attacking midfielder.
The 21-year-old has an average match rating of 6.7 and has started 16 out of 21 games he has played.
He has 78% passing accuracy and averages one interception per match, three duels per match, and four recoveries throughout 90 minutes.
The Hornets are known for attracting brilliant young players to the club with the likes of Joao Pedro, Yaser Asprilla and Ismaila Sarr. It looks like Francesconi could be the next to develop for a large fee.
The young midfielder is likely to be more of a long-term option to replace Edo Kayembe and Imran Louza, as he is set to depart if Watford do not reach the Premier League this season.
He would likely play in the central or defensive midfield role alongside Kyprianou, given that we have lots of attacking talent at our disposal.
Francesconi could join a whole host of Italian players to play for Watford, joining fellow Italian Edoardo Bove at the club.
Watford will face competition, however, as they are not the only club tracking the Italian, with Liga Portugal side Famalicao also keen on the young man.
