West Bromwich Albion have confirmed the signing of defender Charlie Taylor on a season-long loan from Southampton.
The 31-year-old has had limited game time at Southampton since signing a two-year contract in the summer of 2024.
Taylor made just 10 appearances last season as the Saints were relegated from the Premier League and has not featured in the Championship this campaign under Will Still, appearing only in their two EFL Cup matches.
The experienced left-back will provide much-needed cover and competition for Hungarian international Callum Styles following the termination of Gianluca Frabotta’s contract.
He becomes West Brom’s ninth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Nat Phillips, George Campbell, Krystian Bielik, Chris Mepham, Alfie Gilchrist, Aune Heggebo, Toby Collyer and Samuel Iling-Junior.
Career To Date And The Experience He Brings To West Bromwich Albion
Charlie Taylor began his career in Yorkshire with Leeds United, progressing through their youth ranks.
He spent a season on loan at Bradford in League Two to gain valuable experience in men’s football, followed by further spells at York City, Inverness CT and Fleetwood.
Taylor returned to his parent club and went on to make over 100 appearances for the Whites, scoring three goals and providing 13 assists.
In the summer of 2017, Sean Dyche brought the then 23-year-old to Burnley on a free transfer, where Taylor would spend the next seven years.
The Englishman racked up 220 appearances for the Clarets, the majority of which came in the Premier League, including five in Europa League qualifying.
Southampton signed Taylor last summer to provide defensive depth after the Saints secured promotion to the Premier League via the play-off final, but was limited to just eight Premier League appearances.
The full-back has played almost 400 senior games in total and will further add to Albion’s experience and leadership under Ryan Mason.
