Wigan Athletic have been pursuing the target but the door could now open for other sides such as Bradford City.

Wigan Athletic are one of the sides that are currently striving to be successful in League One, alongside other teams such as Bradford City, Doncaster Rovers, and Luton Town.
Athletic, who are now in their third season in the English third tier, are 18th currently but could view the January transfer window as an opportunity to improve their squad and to give themselves a good chance of finishing higher in the table.
So far this transfer window, the Latics have signed Joe Taylor from Huddersfield Town in a loan deal until the end of the season.
Taylor, who has scored four times in the league this season stated: “I’ve come here to score goals. It’s a massive Football Club with very high aspirations, and I am really looking forward to being part of that” in a statement on the official Wigan website.
However, their chances of completing another signing have now been reduced with the outfit’s third bid for Accrington Stanley defender Benn Ward rejected according to Pete O’Rourke.
The journalist has also stated that a variety of League One sides including Bradford City, Stockport County, and Reading are weighing up a move for the defender as the closing weeks of the transfer window approach.
Ward has made 23 appearances for Accrington in League Two this season, scoring twice. Furthermore, the defender has made 35 tackles demonstrating his defensive abilities.
| Statistic | Benn Ward |
| Tackles | 35 |
| Duels Won | 190 |
| Aerial Duels Won | 120 |
Now, with O’Rourke revealing that Accrington have rejected a bid from Wigan, the door could be open for other sides such as Bradford and Stockport to pursue a move.
But, with three offers already rejected, these sides may have to be smart in their bids in order to make their move successful.
