Wigan Athletic are said to be frontrunners in the chase for Wrexham star Paul Mullin.
The 30-year-old Striker has been a huge part of the Welsh side’s rise through the divisions and is under contract until 2027.
Despite this Mullin is said to be allowed to leave the club this summer after falling down the pecking order at the club.
The forward only managed five goals last season, and the club have already moved to add Championship experience up top in the form of Ryan Hardie, pushing Mullin further away from a starting spot.
On Wrexham’s documentary “Welcome To Wrexham”, Mullin made it clear that location was important when it came to choosing to join the club back in 2021, after a record-breaking year with Cambridge United. The player is from Liverpool, as is his partner, so being close to Merseyside is important to him, a move to Wigan would fit that bill.
Ryan Lowe’s Wigan are said to be set on bringing in at least two forwards this window, after Dale Taylor returned to Nottingham Forest, with Portsmouth striker Christian Saydee on his way to the northwest imminently.
Whilst last season was Mullin’s weakest in a Wrexham shirt, bringing the player to Brick Community Stadium would be a big statement for the Tics.
Mullin has netted at least 25 goals in all but one season with the Welsh side, scoring 110 goals in his career at the Racecourse Ground. Whilst he has not hit those heights at League One level, the 30-year-old is undeniably a goal scorer, and Lowe will be hoping he can create a system that get’s him firing, pulling Wigan up the table.
After bringing in Hardie, Wrexham are continuing to push for stars in the Championship and higher, with them retaining interest in Tottenham’s Ben Davies, despite the defender signing a one-year extension.
Davies appears to be keen on a return to Wales but wants to hear whether new boss, Thomas Frank has him in his plans or not.
