MK Dons have announced the signing of an attacking midfielder, Will Collar, who joins the club on a permanent basis.
Collar, 28, played his football at Stockport County last season, where he was able to net eight times and contribute to his side with two assists.
Since joining the Hatters in 2020, the Englishman has made 172 appearances. Throughout his time at the Manchester-based side, he has been able to net 38 times.
A Crucial Summer Transfer Window For MK Dons
Collar joins MK Dons in a crucial summer transfer window. The midfielder will become the fifth signing of the Dons’ summer transfer window.
The stadium MK outfit will be looking to better their 19th-place finish in EFL League Two last campaign.
Throughout last season, they were only able to score 52 goals. This resulted in them finishing 15th in the goals scored rankings.
The signing of Collar, who holds experience in both the EFL League Two and EFL League One, will add strength and depth to the midfield as well as contribute to goals from attacking midfield.
What Qualities Does Will Collar Bring?
As we already know, Collar will add quality and depth to the side. However, Collar, like every other player, has their strengths.
The first strength of Collar’s gameplay can be seen in possession. During the 24/25 campaign, the midfielder was able to complete 648 successful passes.
As well as this, he was able to create 37 chances and contribute to two assists. This shows that the former Stockport player can add a creative spark to a side and affect a game in a positive manner.
However, one thing in possession that Collar can be seen to be weaker at is dribbling. During the previous season, he was only able to complete six successful dribbles and had a 24% dribble success.
This could be a problem as Paul Warne’s gameplay involves players running forward in order to create chances.
Furthermore, his defensive statistics were impressive in Stockport’s playoff side. He won 176 duels and completed 42 successful tackles.
This shows that Collar is a hard worker off the ball and in the engine room, as he contributes to gaining possession back for his side.
A Good Signing?
The signing of Will Collar has the potential to be excellent. He brings previous experience in the EFL League Two, great skills, and knows how to contribute to his side so they are successful.
As well as this Collar will bring versatility in order to cover the wide positions in Paul Warne’s formation.
However, with his dribbling ability, could he be successful in a Paul Warne side?
