Reading are one of the sides aiming for success in League One this season.

The Royals, currently managed by Leam Richardson, are in their third season in England’s third tier following their relegation from the Championship during the 2022-23 season.

However, so far this season, the side have had a mixed display with them picking up 35 points to leave them ninth in the League One table.

Furthermore, the outfit have won nine games so far this season.

Meanwhile, considering that the team are currently just four points off the play-off places currently, Reading could view the January transfer window as an opportunity to improve their squad and give themselves a greater chance on improving on their seventh place finish in the league last season.

So far in the window, the Royals have extended the contract of Randell Williams by a further 18 months, helping to guarantee his short-term is with Reading.

However, the outfit have also lost Matty Jacob after he was recalled from his loan spell at the club by Hull City following an injury.

Now, the Royals look to be adding to the quality of the squad currently through the signing of Preston North End forward Will Keane on a loan basis, according to Pete O’Rourke on his X account.

Keane, who joined North End prior to the start of the 2023-24 season, has made 73 appearances for the club and has scored 18 times in his spell at the club.

However, he has struggled to get game-time at Deepdale this season with the forward making just two appearances. But, in these games, he was able to score one goal.

Meanwhile, with prior experience in League One with Wigan Athletic where Will Keane helped Athletic gain promotion from the English third tier, this move could be the right opportunity for the striker to energise his career once again.

Furthermore, the move can be said to be a good opportunity for Reading as they will be gaining a player who knows exactly what it takes to be promoted from League One.
