Ipswich Town were beaten in an eight-goal thriller as defensive struggles and attacking fireworks combine in a breathless contest.

Ipswich Town were dragged into a chaotic, end‑to‑end contest, eventually falling 5-3 to Wrexham in a match that swung constantly and never settled.
Kieran McKenna’s rotated side showed sharp attacking moments, but defensive looseness and a lack of midfield control ultimately cost them.
Wrexham came out aggressively and punished Ipswich early. Kieffer Moore opened the scoring on six minutes, reacting quickest inside the box to fire the hosts ahead.
Town struggled to settle, and things worsened when Josh Windass capitalised on a loose midfield pass to make it 2–0 just before the half‑hour mark.
Ipswich needed a spark, and Anis Mehmeti provided it. Cutting inside from the left, he curled a composed finish beyond Arthur Okonkwo to pull Town back into the contest.
The goal lifted Ipswich, who began to find pockets of space and move the ball with more confidence.
Just before the break, Ivan Azon brought Ipswich level. His well‑timed run and tidy finish made it 2–2 at 45+3’, completing a spirited response to a shaky opening half.
Despite the comeback, Town still looked vulnerable whenever Wrexham went direct.
Ipswich flew out of the blocks after the restart, and within two minutes, Cedric Kipré smashed home from close range to complete the turnaround and put Town 3–2 up. It was the perfect moment to take control of the match.
But instead of settling, the game became even more chaotic.
Wrexham equalised on 66 minutes through George Thomason after Ipswich failed to clear their lines. From that point, the momentum shifted sharply.
The midfield lost its grip, the defensive line became stretched, and Wrexham sensed weakness.
Callum Doyle restored the hosts’ lead in the 75th minute, and Nathan Broadhead’s 86th‑minute strike sealed the result.
Ipswich’s substitutes brought energy but couldn’t stem the tide, and the match drifted away in the closing stages.
Ipswich Town: Christian Walton, Darnell Furlong, Dara O’Shea (C), Cedric Kipré, Leif Davis, Azor Matusiwa (80’), Jack Taylor (70’), Wes Burns (70’), Anis Mehmeti (70’), Jack Clarke, Ivan Azon (75’)
Wrexham: Arthur Okonkwo, Max Cleworth, Dominic Hyam, Callum Doyle, Issa Kabore, Ben Sheaf, Oliver Rathbone, George Thomason, Josh Windass, Lewis O’Brien, Kieffer Moore
This was a match Ipswich could and arguably should have taken something from.
Scoring three goals away from home, including a sharp finish from Mehmeti, a well‑timed equaliser from Azon and a second‑half strike from Kipré, should have provided a platform.
But defensive looseness and a lack of midfield control left Town exposed throughout.
McKenna will take positives from the fightback, but the structural issues remain clear. With fixtures coming thick and fast, Ipswich need to tighten up quickly.
