Founded in 1864, Wrexham AFC are the oldest professional football club in Wales and among the oldest in the world. They play their home matches at the Racecourse Ground, which is recognised as the oldest international football stadium still in use. After enduring 15 years outside the Football League, the club secured promotion to League Two in 2023, followed by a second consecutive promotion to League One in 2024, and then made history with a third straight promotion to the Championship in 2025 — the first club to achieve three consecutive promotions from the fifth tier to the second tier of English football. Owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney since 2021, Wrexham’s resurgence has drawn global attention through the “Welcome to Wrexham” documentary series.
