A Wrexham forward is on the verge of leaving the club, with a League One duo poised to strike to land their target.

According to Darren Witcoop, Wrexham forward Ryan Hardie is expected to be on the move this window, with Bolton Wanderers, and former side Plymouth Argyle both interested in the Scotsman’s signature.

Competition from elsewhere looks to be increasing, as the Scot seeks a loan move away from Wrexham this window.

Ryan Hardie

The current Wrexham forward found his best form under current Bolton Wanderers manager Steven Schumacher. When the pair were colleagues at Plymouth Argyle, Hardie was particularly prolific in the 2022/2023 season which saw the Greens promoted back to the Championship for the first time in 13 years.

Hardie notched up 21 goal contributions that season, before putting up double figures in his next two consecutive seasons in the Championship – before his summer move to Wrexham.

Hardie previously spent the last six seasons playing for Plymouth Argyle, where he initially joined on loan from Blackpool. After a stellar campaign in the 2019/2020 which saw the Pilgrims promoted to League One, the club opted to make the deal permanent. The Scotsman then went on to put up double figures in 4 out of his next 5 seasons for Argyle.

Why Is Hardie Leaving Wrexham?

Since that very move, Hardie has started just twice for Wrexham in the Championship and played a total of 179 minutes across six games. The forward has also played 4 games in the Carabao Cup for the Red Dragons, where he’s scored his only goal for the club. An undesirable start to the campaign that led to the Scotsman often left out of the squad has left him seeking a loan move away from the club this window.

According to The Bolton News, current Championship side Bristol City are also said to be in the race for the 28-year-old, however Bolton Wanderers currently seems to be the most sensible destination – given the clubs lack of strikers and also current location of the player.
