Wycombe Wanderers Agree Deal For Experienced League One Striker

Wycombe Wanderers are close to agreeing a deal for an experienced League One striker, according to @ChairboysNoise on X.

Cauley Woodrow could be making the switch from Bedfordshire to Buckinghamshire, with the Luton striker set for a deadline day move to Wanderers – though final details are yet to be finalised with a handful of hours still left of the transfer window.

Wycombe Wanderers Striker Struggles

After losing Richard Kone over the summer to QPR, many Wycombe Wanderers fans would’ve been thinking the club had a list of potential replacements ready for when the time came. However, it’s taken Mike Dodd’s team until the last day of the window to get another number nine through the door – potentially a sign of panic after a seriously poor start to the season.

Bradley Fink was brought in before Kone left, with some speculation that he may be the replacement.

Unfortunately for The Chairboys, Fink has seen just nine minutes on the opening day at Bradford before picking up an injury that has kept him out since – despite head coach Dodds saying he could be seen very soon for the last few weeks, frustrating Wycombe fans even further.

Dan Udoh has been left as the only recognised senior striker in the squad and has struggled to really make a mark. A really well taken goal at Bradford is his only goal so far this season, whilst also registering an assist in the 2-2 draw against Reading.

There’s no doubt Udoh has the quality and ability to be a starting striker, but the burden of being the only one might be part of the struggle, with some competition potentially kick starting his season.

Cauley Woodrow’s Up and Down Career

It’s safe to say after making a name for himself at Barnsley in the 18/19 League One season, plenty of teams know who he is and the goalscoring qualities he possesses. That being said, Woodrow is without a competitive goal contribution since the 23/24 season – blanking in 16 appearances at Luton and 10 appearances at Blackburn.

He’s certainly fallen out of favour at Luton since his move from Yorkshire, scoring just 6 goals for them in 3 seasons.

A sub appearance on the opening night against Wimbledon and 59 minutes from the start in the Carabao Cup at Coventry are his only minutes so far this season – with manager Matt Bloomfield evidently having Jerry Yates and Nahki Wells ahead of him in the pecking order.

Is Woodrow Wycombe’s Answer?

One of Wycombe’s biggest issues has been putting the ball in the back of the net – creating plenty of chances and dominating possession stats without capitalising on them has seen them suffer so far. Goals are being shared around the squad rather than coming from one main department, adding to the struggles to match their opponents in their opening fixtures.

Whilst Woodrow might not have had the best few seasons at Luton, Wycombe and their fans are crying out for an established figure and an experienced leader to help them navigate their way out of this early slump and get their first win on the board.

At the end of the day Woodrow will be judged on his goalscoring statistics, but his character and experience could be under the radar qualities that help Wanderers find their feet in the 25/26 season.
