According to Fabrizio Romano on X, Nottingham Forest academy’s new signing Donnell McNeilly from Chelsea will be immediately sent out on loan to Wycombe Wanderers on a season long loan.
The 19-year-old will be sent out for his first spell of first-team professional football, linking up with League One side Wycombe Wanderers.
Donnell McNeilly has risen through the ranks at Chelsea academy, but has made the switch to the Midlands, potentially due to the difficulty of breaking into the Chelsea first team due to their high spending antics under chairman Todd Boehly, whereas Nottingham Forest tend to treat their academy ballers with a bit more passion, often finding EFL clubs for loanees.
Wycombe have added 12 new players to their squad at the time of writing, marking somewhat of a rebuild under Mike Dodds, but haven’t gotten off on the front foot, as they are currently sat in the relegation zone in 22nd place and without a win in the league as it stands.
What Does McNeilly Bring To Wycombe Wanderers?
With Udoh heading out the door, there is room for a pacey, energetic and raw forward to join the ranks, and Donnell McNeilly perfectly fits that description.
Donnell McNeilly featured in the Premier League 2 on 18 occasions last campaign, and he bagged an impressive 12 times during the 2024/25 season, as well as getting his first taste of professional first-team football in the Vertu Trophy, including a goal against Bromley in September 2024 and a 60 minute cameo against League One side (at the time) Cambridge United.
Wycombe have had a particularly busy deadline day, with many rumours flying around, as they are set to bring in Niall Huggins and are linked with Birmingham’s Taylor Gardner-Hickman, whilst forward Dan Udoh is set to head the other direction to drop down to join Salford City in League Two.
