According to EFL Published on X and their personal source ChairboysNoise also on X, Wycombe Wanderers are reportedly interested in bringing Birmingham City midfielder Taylor Gardner-Hickman on loan before the deadline day door slams shut.
Gardner-Hickman hasn’t featured as much as he’d perhaps hoped for thus far this campaign, making just one short substitute appearance in the Championship in The Blues’ opening fixture against Ipswich Town, but did feature in their Carabao Cup loss against Port Vale, playing the full 90 minutes.
He played on 33 occasions in League One last campaign, as Birmingham racked up 11 points, after joining on an undisclosed fee from Bristol City, but despite this price tag, he spent most of his tenure at the club as a benchwarmer, with a majority of these appearances coming as short cameos as a substitute.
Birmingham have recruited heavily this summer once again, as new addition Tommy Doyle and the ever-consistent Tomoki Iwata and Paik Seung-Ho seeming irreplaceable recently have frozen his opportunities on the pitch at St Andrews.
How Can Wycombe Wanderers Use Him?
Wycombe Wanderers will likely utilise his versatility, as he can operate as both a right-back but also a central midfielder, who can also play wider in the midfield set up, as their wing-back options aren’t particularly dense, with just three contracted wing-backs.
Gardner-Hickman began his career in West Bromwich Albion’s academy, rising through the ranks from Under 18 level to the first team, where he made his debut in May 2021, going on to make 60 appearances for The Baggies, before joining Bristol City on loan for the 2023/24 campaign, before his release clause was met in the January transfer window. but just six months later, Birmingham splashed the cash to bring him down a division to League One following their relegation.
After just one season, he already seems like old news at Birmingham and seems to be one of the players they wish to depart to free up wages, but for Wycombe, these is an incredible signing.
